First, check the level system
Tadoku’s Level Start and Storybooks’ Level 1 belong to different systems. Do not convert them into JLPT levels. Sample the opening and check whether the pictures and text let you follow the story.
How to choose a first read
- Open the official work page and read a few opening lines.
- If too much is unfamiliar to follow the story, try another short work.
- When you finish, add the title to your reading log. Where audio is available, try the narration on the official page.
